Feeding someone or quenching their thirst can only mean one thing: you’re scoring more brownie points in life!

To encourage the good deed of giving, the Negeri Sembilan government has started a ‘Food Bank’ to provide meals for the less fortunate in the state, including the homeless, reported The Malay Mail. Kind of like a soup kitchen!

Launched last night (27 June 2018), Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun said the Food Bank will be led by Negeri Sembilan’s Women’s Affairs, Family and Welfare Committee chairman, Nicole Tan Lee Koon. He also noted that she will be working alongside Welfare Department officials.

Moving forward, he revealed that besides food, they will also be providing other items like:

  • Clothing
  • Other personal care items

Aminuddin then shared that the aid will first start in Seremban before moving on to other areas in Negeri Sembilan. Seems like a good plan!

“Tonight, we have identified 36 individuals who will be provided aid from the Food Bank,” said Aminuddin after chairing the Exco meeting yesterday (28 June 2018).

Indicating that this wasn’t a one-man show, he clarified that the Food Bank was carried out in collaboration with Hotel Royale Chulan, Klana Resort Seremban, NSK and Royale Sungai Ujong Club. It’s great to see many big firms/companies coming together to help the less fortunate!

“They are part of us and have to be given priority. For a start, we will conduct the Food Bank every Wednesday,” he explained after stating that this is one of the ways to help the poor in Negri Sembilan.

We need more initiatives like this to combat one of the largest social problems in our country, which is poverty. On a side note, we hope that the Negeri Sembilan state government has plans to expand the project to provide more than just food and domestic needs to the less fortunate. A+ for the effort though!

Do you think that other states will follow Negeri Sembilan’s footsteps and set up their own respective soup kitchen? Let’s us know in the comments below!
