Online shopping has become so common that there’s almost always a parcel arriving at home or at work every week, and it looks like culprits are taking advantage of this situation to scam consumers.

On June 4, a netizen named Kylie shared how a ‘delivery guy’ sent a package to her house with her name on it even though none of her family members had ordered anything online.

Here’s what happened.

At about 8.30pm, a ‘delivery guy’ rung Kylie’s doorbell, and she already had a weird feeling as a courier would usually never deliver packages after office hours.

“When I asked the delivery guy about his unusual working hours, he said that there were too many parcels to be delivered that day.

“I felt suspicious as I didn’t buy anything online recently. Also, ‘COD’ (cash on delivery) was written on that parcel.”

Kylie immediately called her sister to check whether the package belongs to her and was told that the whole thing was a scam. If Kylie had accepted the parcel, she’d have to pay RM288 as stated on the label. Luckily, she refused to sign for the parcel and asked for it to be returned. Good call!

Her Facebook post has since gone viral with over 25,000 shares in just three days, and it turns out that Kylie isn’t the first victim. A few months ago, another netizen was visited by a delivery guy and the parcel was also labelled “COD” along with the same amount of “RM288” as well!

Besides that, another similar case had gone viral online about seven months ago. This parcel too, required the receiver to pay cash to the delivery guy, but the amount and the label were different this time. Basically, the scammers were making a comeback (or perhaps they never really left in the first place) with different shipping labels and prices!

So guys, if you frequently shop online, you might want to keep track of the things you or your family members buy and don’t get fooled by these fake labels on the parcels! Spread the word!
