It’s been an exciting past month with all the changes that’s taking place in Malaysia. With the new government in place and Anwar being released, it’s a fantastic time to be alive to be able to witness all the transformations in the nation.

Although more than two weeks have passed since GE14, there’s still so much to look forward to, including the many changes the new government intends to make and the promises they plan to keep. While we wait to see their promises come to pass, everyday Malaysians are also trying to contribute to this new Malaysia, and it’s giving us goosebumps! <3

Here are some new changes Malaysians have noticed happening around them ever since the new government took over:

1. “My friend was telling me that when she went to McDonald’s with her friends, they decided to throw their rubbish away and put the trays back because it’s a new Malaysia.” – Jem, 25

Yay, well done guys!

2. “I called several government offices this past few days and goodness, the employees were so nice!” – Ong, 31

This is practically a miracle seeing as how most of the time it’s quite impossible to get through to government offices. You know what I mean!

3. “I hear friends from overseas talking about wanting to come home from abroad, and so many more are now interested to work in the civil service!” – Pang, 27

They are all excited to be part of the new government and feeling patriotic to be able to make a change!

4. “My dad’s friend who owns a business had to pay GST to the government and he actually said he felt so good contributing to the Malaysian economy.” – Grace, 31

It sure does feel different when you know where all your taxes are going to. And knowing how they are going to be used!

5. “I’m not sure if it was a coincidence or not but I noticed more people standing to the left side of the escalator instead of blocking the entire path.” – Chloe, 24

Yes, keep it up everyone!!!

6. “Even on Election day itself, I noticed the voters at my school didn’t potong queue… they just went to the front of the line to ask if it was the right saluran, then walked all the way back to the end of the line to queue!” -Edelyn, 24

That’s true Malaysian spirit right there!

7. “I hear people actually saying good things about our ministers… like, they actually love our government now!” – Grace, 31

I mean, have you seen some of the hilariously adorable memes and GIFs of Mat Sabu?!

8. “People seem nicer. Strangers even make small talk. Happened to me twice… one uncle suddenly started talking about how everyone’s in a good mood now because Najib isn’t PM.” – Tara, 25

It’s amazing to see how the people’s dislike for one man managed to unite an entire nation. Woohoo!

9. “There’s definitely a higher political interest/awareness among Malaysians now. Even my friends and relatives living overseas are keeping up to date with Malaysian politics!” – Brian, 30

How great is it that Malaysians near and far are finally taking an interest in our nation’s politics! Better late than never.

10. “Dad said a morning market near his workplace was raided by MBPJ yesterday and for once, they just summoned the workers with no option for bribery. I think decreasing corruption has had a ripple effect from top down.” – James, 31

Let’s hope bribery and corruption will soon be a thing of the past in Malaysia!

11. “I feel like the drivers around my area (Jalan Ampang) are suddenly more polite. They use their signal and give way to others. Not as aggressive anymore!” – Jimmy, 25

This is every Malaysian’s dream come true.

Of course, these are all just personal experiences and they might not be reflected everywhere yet, but hopefully one day, we’ll be able to achieve a better Malaysia nationwide! A nation where there no longer exists any racism or corruption, and everywhere everyone can live together in perfect harmony. #newMalaysia

Remember, it starts with you! So, if you want to see change in the nation, start living differently today! How? Just by doing simple things! Don’t litter or cut queues, let those in trains and elevators alight before you enter, be considerate of the people around you; it’s that simple!

Have you experienced any good changes in Malaysians lately? Do share them with us in the comments section!
