Two young brothers drowned in the retention pond of a construction site in Perak
Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Bin Abang Ahman, Ipoh Police Chief, said the police received a report about the brothers’ deaths on Wednesday (August 20) around 8:33 PM, and according to early investigations, the brothers did not return home after they went out to play.
The construction site was just next to their house, and their bodies in the retention pond were discovered by the public.
Both children were sent to the hospital for an emergency rescue, but to no avail. The medical personnel announced their deaths at 9:39 PM.
Parents may face legal action
In an official statement by PDRM in Ipoh, it is also revealed that the construction site has no gate, and no prohibition sign for the public.
The autopsy report had confirmed the victims’ cause of death to be drowning, and the matter is now being investigated under Section 33 Children’s Act 2001, as the police believed there is an element of a child’s neglect in the case.

For illustration purposes only
In his statement, Abang Zainal Abidin also urged the parents, or the legal guardians, to be alert to their children’s movements, especially when they are near risky areas, such as the river, pond, and construction sites.
“The management of construction sites is also reminded to follow the safety protocols, including by installing gates and prohibition signs to avoid unwanted incidents.”
The public with relevant information is urged to reach out to the police to assist with the investigation.
