A 70-year-old beggar was robbed and injured by a man and woman who pretended to be his children and told him they wanted to bring him home.

According to Oriental Daily, the incident happened in front of a business centre in Taman Ria Jaya, Sungai Petani, Kedah, where the homeless beggar would usually sit and beg.

On the morning of the unfortunate event (23 March), the suspects approached the beggar and claimed that they were his children. They said they wanted to bring him home to avoid embarrassment from begging on the street.

However, the suspects kidnapped the beggar and robbed him of RM5,000 that he had saved.

At about 6pm, the beggar was found sitting in some bushes near Kampung Raja. He had sustained injuries to his head, eyes, and feet.

After receiving information from residents, a security team went to the location and reported the incident to the police.

The beggar told the security team that he was kidnapped by five suspects. Two of them shared a motorcycle while the others took him away in a Proton Wira. He said that the suspects robbed him of about RM5,000 he had saved from his hard work.
