A 50-year-old woman in Penang fell into a 6-foot drainage hole yesterday (September 17) while hiking in Bukit Mertajam, Penang.
A team of firefighters from the district were deployed for the search mission. The victim, Oh Ai Chin was found but unfortunately, she did not make it.
In an official statement by the firefighters in Bukit Mertajam, Oh was pronounced dead at the scene. The team said they received a distress call about the missing hiker around 1 PM. Its operations commander Mohd Azmi Zakaria said with the assistance of the police, the team managed to retrieve the victim’s body.
Oh’s body was found some 5 KM away from where she was last seen. Her body was then passed to PDRM for further action.
The Bukit Mertajam Fire Department also reminded those in the state about the weather, saying heavy downpours, strong winds, and thunderstorms are imminent, as per the weather forecast from MetMalaysia.
“Based on the weather forecast analysis, the wind concentration that occurs in the northern peninsula and west of Sabah is expected to continue until September 21.”
Bad weather is also expected not only in Kedah but also in Perlis, Perak, and Pahang throughout the entire week, as well as strong winds and rough seas in the waters of the South China Sea and the North Malacca Strait.
