Our friends are a blessing in our lives but sadly, not many get the praise they deserve. Have you ever found yourself wondering about the types of people in your lives which help you get by? Well, we certainly have. So much so that we’ve compiled a list of a few types of friends we simply cannot live without! From helping us get out of sticky situations to doing little favours for us without asking for anything in return, these are the type of people we need but certainly not the ones we deserve!

1. The ones who would pinjam us duit without asking for it back

These people truly are a blessing and are one of the most kindhearted and generous people we know. They are the ones we turn to when we’re running low on cash and never pressure us to pay them back. Like paying them back for all the countless mamak trips.

Seriously, if you have these people in your life or better yet, are one of those people, thank you for being you! Your generosity is priceless!

2. That one friend who always reminds us of an assignment deadline

College life is arguably one of the best stages in life. We skip class whenever we like, party to our heart’s content, and more often than not, can get away with arriving late to class every time. Speaking from experience.

But when responsibilities catch up with us such as meeting an assignment deadline, there is always that one person who would call us to say: “Bro, assignment hand in already or not? Deadline tonight la weh!

You guys are legends, seriously.

3. The designated driver in the group

Ahhh… how can we forget the go-to driver? Usually, this is someone who’s the first to get their P licence in the group. Hence, it is needless to say that they are often taken advantage of and would be subjected to bad driving jokes by their friends. Seriously guys, stop bullying them lah. They’re doing us all a good favour, especially when you go out for drinking sessions!

4. That one kesian friend we make use of so that our parents would let us out of the house

You know Malaysian parents can be very strict right? Want to go out for awhile also they’ll ask us thousands of questions. Here’s a scenario Malaysians can confirm relate to about how we weasel our way out of our house:

“Mummy, I’m going out.”
“With who?! Where? What time are you coming back?”
“Oh… with Sam only la.”
“Oh, Sam. Okay, have fun.”

Sounds familiar? Yes, we all have a Sam in our lives. To all these people in our lives, we may not show it, but we truly appreciate your existence.

5. Someone who would take the fall for us

Let’s face it, Malaysian timing is a plague in our society and every one of us struggle to arrive on time for anything. As such, we’ve all been in sticky situations before such as being late for an important event or arriving home way past our curfew.

Thankfully, our friends would sometimes voluntarily take the fall for us. These are the type of people who would usually say it was their fault we were late, not ours. Whatever the scenario, you can be rest assured that these are the people you can depend on when times get tough. Such selfless friends <3

Are you lucky enough to have these types of friends in your lives? Tell us in the comments and let us know if we missed out on other types of awesome friends most Malaysians have but may not really deserve!

In the spirit of Deepavali, show the ones you love some appreciation for always being there for you just like Kumari’s friends from the popular short film 5 Sekawan™.

In case you didn’t know, 5 Sekawan™ will be returning for its sixth episode this Deepavali due to popular demand from Malaysians! The short film is out now with a surprising new addition to the 5 Sekawan™ gang, adding to the group’s dynamic.

Last year, the popular short film captured the hearts of Malaysians, who praised the film for highlighting the multicultural aspect of Malaysia and the spirit of Deepavali.

This year’s installment builds upon the theme of diversity while celebrating unity and love regardless of blood ties and race.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Grace Chan, head of brand marketing at Celcom Axiata Berhad said this year’s installment supports the universal theme of love and light from within.

“In line with Deepavali, the festival of lights, may we put aside our differences and come together as one. I’m grateful to be Malaysian, to live in a country that advocates tolerance and promotes harmony,” she said.

You can catch this year’s installment here.

Also, be sure to get caught up on all the previous episodes for 5 Sekawan™ as well!

Have a joyous Deepavali, everyone!
