It’s the super bike racing weekend in Malaysia as qualified riders from all around Asia gather in Sepang Internation Circuit (SIC) to compete in the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup race.
Unfortunately, 20-year-old Afridza Munandar from Indonesia passed away after being involved in a race incident on the circuit. The incident happened during the very 1st lap at Turn 10, and the race was red flagged immediately.
Rushing to his aid, the medical stuff provided him medical attention by the side of the track before he was rushed to Kuala Lumpur Hospital via helicopter.
Despite everyone’s efforts, the young racer succumbed to his injuries shortly after. RIP.
The talented Afridza was ranked third overall, having accumulated 142 points, just 15 points short from second ranked racer Sho Nishimura and 27 points behind Takuma Matsuyama who’s ranked first. Afridza already grabbed 2 wins, 2 second places, and 2 third-place finishes.
