Just because teasing each other in class is common for most students, that doesn’t mean it won’t hurt the person on the receiving end. In this case, a life was lost because of incessant teasing.

Last Friday (10 August), horrifying footage of a secondary school student committing suicide began circulating on social media. It was reported that the 17-year-old student was studying at a school in Sisaket province, Thailand.

According to Oriental Daily, the secondary school student had always been teased by his classmates for being obese. Over time, he became socially withdrawn and lost his self-confidence.

On the day of the incident, the teen was spotted crossing to the ledge on the fifth floor of his school building and walked slowly along the border. A few students from the opposite building saw him and initially thought it was just a prank. They continued chatting but soon realised that something was wrong.

Without looking back, the boy walked towards the very end of the ledge, looked down, and squatted there. The other students started shouting and screaming but it was already too late as the depressed kid jumped to his death.

He was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance but his injuries were too severe and ended up dying at the hospital.

The police are now investigating the cause of the suicide and many believed that it was due to the mocking he received in school. However, local media speculated that he may also have been pushed by family issues as well.

After the tragedy, many of his schoolmates regretted their behaviour and posted on social media seeking forgiveness.

So guys, let’s be more considerate and avoid putting others down because we don’t know what predicament someone else is going through. RIP to this young boy.
