Good things come to those who wait…

Unfortunately, not in this case.

A woman sued her boyfriend, after eight years of being in a relationship together, for taking too long to marry her.

According to Kenya’s news site Tuko, the 26-year-old woman, Gertrude Ngoma, took her boyfriend Herbert Salaliki, 28, to court as he failed to keep his promise of marrying her.

Gertrude Ngoma told the Zambian court she had become tired of waiting to get married to Herbert, who had promised to wed her.

Although the couple have a child together, Ngoma still lives with her parents while her partner lives alone.

Salaliki is reported to have handled the dowry payment but still had not wedded the mother of his child.

Gertrude said she has high doubts about Hebert’s loyalty after discovering he was allegedly trying for another woman, who she believes has something going on with her boyfriend.

“He has never been serious, that is why I brought him to court because I deserve to know the way forward and our future,” Ngoma told a Zambian court.

Salaliki, of course, defended himself with the excuse that he is not currently in a financial position to afford a wedding. He added that Gertrude has not been giving him enough attention in their complicated relationship.

The judge presiding the case advised the couple that reconciliation was probably the best way to go. After all, there is no evidence of any marriage yet, although the dowry has been paid for.
