We can’t say this enough, people. Your eyes are super precious and you should check it out ASAP if there is anything wrong with it. This poor schoolboy in Kaohsiung, Taiwan accidentally scratched his cornea when he was playing with his friends but didn’t take care of it and is now suffering from near blindness. Oh no!
According to Mingpao, an 11-year-old boy had a scratched cornea but neither he nor his family thought that it was a big issue so they didn’t take him to the doctor. The boy went swimming after that incident and he even continued wearing his special contact lenses overnight to reshape his eyeballs (Orthokeratology).
Unfortunately for him, his scratched cornea turned into something much more serious after the abrasion got infected with unclean water when he was swimming. His eye was infected by two different bacterium, which triggered corneal ulcers. Must be super painful!
His parents panicked and brought him to the doctor for treatment but when the doctor diagnosed his situation, he found that it was a lot more worse than he thought. He treated him for two weeks but the ulcers did not improve. Worried, the doctor discovered that his condition had gotten more serious because the bacteria had the chance to go deeper into his eye due to the scratch.
They immediately tried to save his eye and treated him for three months but to no avail. The corneal scar and new blood vessels growing on his eye had greatly affected his vision. He was left with a vision loss of 0.02, which is said to be near-total vision loss. Yes, corneal ulcers can make you go blind!
The doctor said that the little boy would probably need a corneal transplant if he wanted to recover his vision but they are trying to save his eye. He also reminded the public to seek medical advice immediately if they experience any persistent discomfort in their eyes and to avoid using contact lenses or participating in any water-related activities to prevent infection.
You heard the man! Take good care of your eyes!
