Each one of us goes through different trials and tribulations until we manage to pick ourselves up again. A group of Malaysian internet celebrities and influencers recently got together in a podcast and talked about the lowest point of their lives.

One of the influencers, Michiyo Ho, revealed that before her success today, she couldn’t even afford a mooncake.

“I was shopping at that time, and I saw mooncakes at the display. At that time, mooncake was considered luxurious to me,” he shared.

“I realised I couldn’t even afford one mooncake.”

Michiyo said back then, the price for a mooncake was not expensive. The one she had her eye on costs around RM10, and she usually had mooncake at home when her relatives gifted her family the snack during the Lantern Festival.

“I looked at the price. It was around RM10. I decided to go back to my office hoping there was some in the pantry. A lot of things were considered a luxury to me back then.”

The podcast was joined by @xan.xiaoxian, @reik0one, @mayng1129, @realjoshuase, and @weiloon222. Everyone took turns and shared the lowest periods of their lives, in which Reiko said the nightmarish moment of her life took place when she was fired from her part-time job in Korea when she was studying there.

“I was a dishwasher, and I was fired. My boss then gave me a loaf of bread that had expired for three weeks. I burst into tears.”

Reiko said she was fired because of her slow working pace, and her former employer wanted someone older. Fortunately, when she asked for the bus ride fare home, her employer gave her the money.

Wei Loon, on the other hand, said that strict budgeting was a MUST before going out with his friends last time because the activities may cost him more than he could afford.

“I had to list the activities and calculate the expenses. If I knew I couldn’t afford it, I wouldn’t have joined my friends.”
