Parenting in the Digital Age: 5 Things M’sian Parents Should Consider Before Purchasing a Smartphone!

Let’s face it—being a parent in 2024 is a different ball game. In today’s tech-driven world, parenting isn’t just about choosing the best baby gear but also selecting gadgets that keep up with your parenting needs.

If you have tiny hoomans (children?) occupying your house and you’re planning to invest in a smartphone, here are five important features Malaysian parents should look for before swiping their card.

1. Protect those precious eyes with risk and flicker-free screen

Did you know screens with high flicker rates can harm young, sensitive eyes? Flicker rate is the rapid change of brightness in a screen and it can cause eye strain, headaches, blurred vision, and even fatigue, especially in the eyes of young children.

One way to tackle this issue is to look for the risk-free pulse width modulation (PWM) dimming feature when buying a smartphone, as it helps to drastically reduce flicker to keep the eyes of the young ones safe.

2. Advanced sound calibration for baby’s developing ears

We all know that babies can be incredibly sensitive to loud sounds. Hence, buying a smartphone with an advanced sound calibration feature ensures the audio is baby-friendly. This feature in a smartphone prioritises soft, balanced acoustics that won’t harm tiny eardrums.

3. Never miss a moment with the AI motion-sensing feature

Kids grow up way too fast—and that’s a fact! One moment they’re crawling, the next they’re running. Parents can’t afford to miss valuable moments like these.

Hence, purchasing a smartphone with a camera that comes with an AI motion-sensing feature ensures that you never miss a single milestone as it automatically captures moving objects in crisp and vivid details, meaning those precious movements are preserved forever. This fantastic camera feature also ensures that your photos aren’t blurry no matter how chaotic the behind-the-scenes may be.

4. Enhanced voice-to-text memo in multiple languages to help you get through your day

Parenting comes with a never-ending list of tasks. From doctor’s appointments to grocery runs, your day never stops. This is why having a smartphone with a voice-to-text feature ensures you don’t miss out on any important duties.

Whether it’s jotting down a reminder or taking notes for work, having a voice-to-text feature in multiple languages will be extremely handy to help you stay on top of your game even with kids around.

5. Babyproof durability to survive chews and drools

If there’s one thing all parents can agree on, it’s that babies love exploring the world through their mouths and that’s including smartphones. Investing in a smartphone that can withstand your baby’s chews and drools will save you big time.

For instance, features like water resistance, special fiber that ensures solidity, and an anti-scratch shield will ensure your smartphone is truly babyproof and durable. You don’t have to panic even if your baby decides to give your phone a taste test.?
