As the smoking ban is a very new rule that has just been implemented, it is inevitable for some to stick to old habits and puff away in open-air eateries.

Sometimes, warnings and reminders do get through to these people. However, for one very unlucky employee, his words backfired with a literal slap to the face.

As reported by Kosmo, the incident happened at a mamak in Jalan Makmur 25/64, Section 25, Shah Alam. A 25-year-old Indian worker walked up to a group of three customers smoking at the restaurant where he gently reminded them about the ban and how they were not allowed to light up their cigarettes within the premises of the restaurant. The warning was, however, not only ignored but replied with a slap to the employee’s left cheek.

Shah Alam Police Chief ACP Baharudin Mat Taib mentioned in his report how the three smokers left the mamak immediately after making their payment.

“The police have obtained the recorded footage of the scene and are in the midst of identifying the suspect We ask for the main suspect that slapped the employee to turn himself in to help with the investigation,” said the police chief.

While police are working hard to identify the culprit, we should all remember not to smoke at open-air restaurants unless we are three metres away. This ban is also inclusive of vape, shisha or other products that produce smoke.
