The Ministry of Education (MOE) has assured Malaysians that it is prepared for the eventuality of a flood in the country, especially when the monsoon season is fast approaching.
Its Minister, Fadhlina Sidek said that MOE has finalised the mechanism for the flood preparations, including turning schools into flood relief centres.
As reported by BERNAMA, Fadhlina also asserted that MOE is always in contact with the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), working together in facing the possibility of any disaster, including floods.
The Education Minister said,
“We are always prepared. The coordinating committee has discussed the matter and the Flood Monitoring Centre is also prepared for the monsoon season,”
Yesterday, several states in Malaysia were hit by flash floods, most notably Perak, Sabah and Sarawak which results in the evacuation of hundreds of residents to relief centres.
Speaking of which, the Perak State Department of Drainage and Irrigation (DID) revealed that the flash flood in the state was primarily due to the exceptionally heavy or extraordinary rainfall.
