2018 is fast approaching, and with the new year comes a number of changes.
WhatsApp is definitely making some major changes of their own in the coming year, and it unfortunately means bad news for some users!
The popular messaging app will no longer support certain platforms, so if you own phones running on any of the operating systems they have listed on their website, now’s the best time to make the switch to a newer phone!
Here’s the list of platforms that will no longer be supported, according to WhatsApp;
- Android versions older than 2.3.3
- Windows Phone 7
- iPhone 3GS/iOS 6
- Nokia Symbian S60
For the following platforms, users will not be able to create new accounts and re-verify existing accounts;
- BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 (can be used until 31st December 2017)
- Windows Phone 8.0 and older (can be used until 31st December 2017)
- Nokia S40 (can be used until 31st December 2018)
- Android versions 2.3.7 and older (can be used until 1st February 2020)
An excerpt from the announcement on their website reads,
“If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer OS version, or to a newer Android running OS 4.0+, iPhone running iOS 7+, or Windows Phone 8.1+ so that you can continue using WhatsApp.”
Although WhatsApp gave out specific dates, some users may no longer be able to use the app at any given time.
