As Malaysians, many of us have had great memories at McDonald’s while growing up. From collecting their Happy Meals toys and attending birthday parties, we’ve grown pretty familiar with the restaurant and of course, their burgers.
While the classic menu items, such as the Big Mac or McChicken, remain as everyone’s favourites, we also love how McDonald’s would introduce unique seasonal menu items from time to time. So, to refresh your memory, we decided to review some of the BEST (*cough* in our opinion *cough*) seasonal burgers from McDonald’s!

1. The fiery hot ‘Spicy Korean Burger’
As part of McDonald’s ‘Discover The World’ series to bring the global tastes of foreign cuisines to Malaysians, they introduced the Spicy Korean Burger which fused McDonald’s amazing penchant for burgers with unique Korean flavours. And the result? Simply idolicious!
The burger comes with either a kimchi-seasoned crispy chicken patty or kimchi-seasoned beef patty and they are both topped with a spicy Korean sauce, mixed vegetables, cheese and sandwiched between two fluffy black-coloured charcoal buns that give it that gempak look.
Our review: The spicy taste of this burger was surprisingly very pedas! They also incorporated the Korean flavours very well into the burger and we especially loved the beef burger because it reminded us of bulgogi. Definitely a fusion menu done right!
2. The Ramadan special ‘Grilled Chicken Foldover’
You know Ramadan is around the corner when the Chicken Foldover is launched!
This is one of those seasonal menu items that the crowd obviously loved so much that McDonald’s just had to bring it back almost every year! The Chicken Foldover is often a Ramadan special and it features two scrumptious grilled chicken patties wrapped in flatbread and topped with fresh mixed veggies and a special sauce. McDonald’s has also introduced a special twist to this menu which is the Crispy Fish Foldover!
Our review: This is one of the most unique menu items from McDonald’s because it branches away from their classic burgers. We love how the toasted flatbread goes really well with the grilled patty. Though it seems like a simple substitute, it really enhances the overall taste and texture!
3. The very Malaysian ‘Burger Syok’
Another burger that was introduced as part of the ‘Discover The World’ series and this time, the burger is representing the local taste of Malaysia!
The Syok burger was made specially to cater to our Malaysian taste buds! The oblong-shaped burger consists of a chicken patty grilled to perfection then topped with a special spicy Syok sauce (it’s Malaysian, of course it needs to be pedas!), fresh mixed veggies and served between two sesame seed buns!
Our review: They definitely nailed the Malaysian taste right on the head! The harmonious combination of the tender patty, the freshness of the veggies and the spicy sauce perfectly capture everything that we love in a burger!
4. The fresh and unique ‘Thai Fish Burger’
Another addition to the ‘Discover The World’ series and this time, McDonald’s took us to explore the taste of Thailand!
The Thai Fish Burger consists of an oblong-shaped crispy fish patty (they also introduced a crispy chicken patty!) that is topped with fresh veggies and the main highlight – a special Thai green curry sauce!
Our review: Using Thai green curry sauce in a burger is something we’ve never dreamed of but it works! However, we do prefer the fish burger because it pairs perfectly with the creamy, tangy sauce and it’s also pretty rare to find burgers with a crispy fish patty. Very unique!
5. The much anticipated ‘Prosperity Burger’
If you don’t like the Prosperity Burger, are you even Malaysian?
This burger remains one of the most famous burgers from McDonald’s despite it being a seasonal menu item. In fact, Malaysians love it so much that we always look forward to CNY just so we can enjoy this burger!
The Prosperity Burger is an oblong-shaped burger that comes with a choice of chicken or beef patty dipped in delicious black pepper sauce and topped with fresh onions. McDonald’s has also released a special edition of this burger during the recent CNY where the burger comes with a piece of hash brown sandwiched in between to serve as an extra crunchy surprise to this classic menu.
Our review: It goes without saying that the Prosperity Burger is one of our all-time favourites from McDonald’s because we just love how a burger with such minimal and simple ingredients can taste so flavourful!
6. The crowd-favourite ‘GCB’
If you recall, McDonald’s GCB (Grilled Chicken Burger) actually started out as a seasonal burger. But Malaysians loved this burger so much that McDonald’s had to make it a permanent menu item! And it’s definitely a great decision because who could resist the tender and juicy chicken patty topped with classic burger essentials such as fresh salad and creamy mayonnaise. They’ve also released other variants of the burger such as the GCB Deluxe.
Our review: You just can’t go wrong with the GCB because it offers a sweet twist to a classic chicken burger which is perfect to enjoy anywhere, anytime!
It’s pretty obvious that McDonald’s never fails to disappoint us whenever they come up with new burgers. In fact, some of these seasonal menus are so well-loved by the public that they’d often make petitions for McDonald’s to make them permanent! And speaking of seasonal menus that are a big hit amongst Malaysians, they’ve actually just released another new burger that has got us very excited…
Yup, we’re talking about the NEW Spicy McCrispy Chicken Burger!
The main highlight of this hottest new burger in town is the oblong-shaped crispy chicken patty which means there is more for you to enjoy with the big size! You can even choose either a single patty or double for twice the goodness! The burger is topped with sesame seed buns, fresh salad and delicious spicy garlic sauce. Sounds so yummy~ ?
If you’re a fan of McDonald’s burgers, then we’re pretty sure you’re going to love this new burger! The spicy garlic sauce paired with the crispy chicken patty offer a unique twist to their usual chicken burger taste that we all know and love.
