Mixue Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Mixue Malaysia) recently apologised on January 28 over concerns about the Halal status at one of its branches.

In a statement, they explained that the issue came from using garbage bags with questionable labelling, which sparked quite a bit of controversy.

“The bags were purchased online”

The company clarified that the garbage bags in question were purchased online for use at the branch but were found to be labelled with inappropriate text that could raise doubts.

They also made it clear they’re taking the issue seriously, pointing out that the bags were just for trash and weren’t involved in food preparation.

“As a responsible company, we’ve asked for the ‘sertu’ (Sharia-compliant cleaning) process to be carried out at the branch to make sure everything is clean and fully Halal-compliant,” they added.

“We’re committed to maintaining Halal compliance”

Mixue Malaysia also mentioned they’ve stopped using the bags and are looking into their purchasing process to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

They also highlighted that all the raw materials used in their products come from Halal-certified suppliers with valid halal certification.

“We’re committed to maintaining cleanliness, quality, and Halal compliance at all our branches. We apologise again for any misunderstandings and thank you for your continued support and trust,” the statement ended.
