In a video that has recently gone viral, a 16-year-old was caught crashing a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) into a food court in Melaka, injuring about customers including children.
According to Kosmo, central Melaka District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said that the incident happened at about 2:43 pm involving a Toyota Avanza type MPV.
He added that preliminary investigations found that the accident was believed to have occurred after a 16-year-old boy was instructed by his mother to warm up the vehicle’s engine.
“When entering the vehicle, the teenager, however, pressed the gas pedal and changed it to reverse gear.”
“The MPV pulled back suddenly and caused a collision with a Proton Suprima S parked next to it before crashing into customers who were dining behind,” he said when contacted by reporters.
Commenting further, he said that several customers were believed to have been injured due to the incident, but so far, no one has come forward to file a police report.
“We believe there are injured customers, but they did not come to make a police report or receive treatment at the hospital. So we cannot confirm how many were injured or the number of victims involved in the accident,” he added.
He said the investigation is still continuing with the help of closed circuit television (CCTV) at the food court, and the case is being investigated according to Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
