Ever since we’ve been allowed to spend time outside again, Malaysians have been visiting public parks to relax and spend time with their families.
But, the sudden increase of visitors in public parks has resulted in a new type of danger. Electric scooters. Well, the people riding them.
The Penang Kini Facebook page recently shared a video which was taken at Karpal Singh Drive, a popular park in Penang.
In the video, a group of youngsters can be seen speeding around park visitors on electric scooters, which has since caused backlash among visitors with children.
Penang Kini wrote, “To those who rent electric scooters at Karpal Singh Drive, please ride prudently.”
“This doesn’t apply to everyone, but there are a few who are causing chaos. I’m worried as I always bring my children for walks to get some fresh air there, I’m scared something may happen.”
Parents in the comments section agree
The video has garnered plenty of attention and currently sits on over 211,000 views, 2,300 reactions and 1,400 comments. Plenty of users expressed their anger.
“True! I feel bad for the children and babies who have just learnt to walk. They can’t even walk there because they are riding like crazy people,” commenter a user.
One user tagged the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and urged them to take action. “Don’t tell me you’re waiting for someone’s kid to get hit.”
“Since you can ride it, do so properly and don’t disturb others. Just relax, don’t behave like this is the Sepang International Circuit,” said a user.
Public parks are meant for people to unwind and enjoy the atmosphere of being outdoors, but that becomes impossible if parents have to worry that their children may get hit by unruly youngsters on these electric scooters.
Electric scooter vendors should also keep an eye on their customers to make sure that they are not causing disturbances or endangering themselves or others.
