A recent video has been making the rounds online, showing smoke filling the plane cabin while the flight crew inspects the overhead compartments to locate the source.
According to Utusan Malaysia, the incident occurred on February 24 when the plane departed from Johor Bahru and was just 30 minutes away from its scheduled landing in Bangkok.

The smoke came from a passenger’s power bank
Batik Air has since confirmed the minor onboard incident involving a passenger’s power bank during the flight.
In their statement, they clarified that the flight crew acted quickly to contain the situation, making sure it didn’t cause any disruptions to the flight.
The plane landed safely at Don Mueang International Airport at 1:33 PM local time, and all passengers were able to disembark without any issues.
“The aircraft is now undergoing a technical assessment as part of standard procedures,” the statement read.

“These devices need to be handled properly”
Batik Air also took the opportunity to remind passengers to follow safety rules when using and storing power banks and lithium batteries.
“These devices are allowed in carry-on bags, but they need to be handled properly to avoid overheating or any risks. We’re committed to maintaining top safety standards and are working closely with the authorities. Further updates will be provided as necessary.”
The airline also urged the public and media not to speculate and to rely on official statements for accurate information.
