As far as preventive measures go, this is taking things a step too far.
Recently, netizens took to Twitter to share heartbreaking videos of Wuhan patients that were locked up and forced into confinement. Deprived of food, basic necessities and medical aid, these patients are welded inside their homes and “left to die” as China continues to struggle against this deadly disease.
The shocking footage uploaded on social media revealed a mob of masked men with heavy equipment and torches sealing doors of seemingly imprisoned patients in the residential area as China’s death toll passed the 800 mark on 9th February 2020.
Currently at a worrying 1,100 recorded deaths, the coronavirus has greatly exceeded the toll of deaths caused by SARS when the viral outbreak garnered 774 deaths during the epidemic in 2003.
Following reports from the Sun, activists are starting to come forward to reveal how people suspected to be infected with the virus are being left to “starve and die”.
Such tragedy was seen in another uploaded video that documented a Wuhan woman barricaded into her home by Chinese authorities. In the video, cries and screams for help can be heard from the unit of the apartment building while the masked men fit thick metal bars over her door.

They even hung a warning sign outside her unit: “This family came back from Wuhan. Stay away, no contact.”
It doesn’t matter how many times these poor patients cry out for help, no one comes to their rescue.
Another clip showed a desperate wife wailing for help on the balcony of her residence, “Help! My husband is dying! Somebody come, I don’t know what to do. I’m desperate, I don’t want to bother you but help me please!”

While the authoritative bodies advise the public to stay away from possibly infected patients, the world needs to recognise that they are still human. And they deserve to be treated better than this. What do you guys think?
