Last week, we were all collectively happy for a graduate who managed to hitchhike his way to his convocation ceremony as he was stuck in a bad traffic jam that had been stuck in for a long period of time.
Although the USM graduate named Kevin managed to find someone kind enough to give him a ride, no one really knew who the selfless person was with many netizens scrambling to find him.
However, the university has since, managed to find the kind-hearted motorcyclist and decided to thank the man for his selfless act.
Ashri Haya, 50, a cleaning service contractor, was specially invited to the last day of USM’s 59th convocation, according to the university’s Facebook post.
In one of the photos, he was seen talking to the university’s top management about what happened on that day.
“I was on my way to work at that time to USM to supervise on some cleaning works when I saw a graduate who was desperately asking for a ride.”
“I saw that he was holding the USM robe and I felt sympathetic towards him who must have been panicking, so I gave him a ride to the university,” he added.
Ashri never expected that his little deed would go viral and snowball into what it has become. He only found after when his co-worker had told him about it the next day.
The Vice-Chancellor of USM, Profesor Datuk Dr Faisal Rafiq Mahamd Adika said that the university appreciated Ashri’s good deed in helping their graduand and said that this value should be in every individual.
“Even though it is small, his readiness to give help to another person in need should be made an example towards everyone.”
It’s so great to see that such a small act of kindness can affect a larger portion of society. Thank you to Ashri for doing what he did! Kevin will definitely remember you for the rest of his life!
