Even though there have been many cases of mat rempits getting into accidents in the news, many seem still adamant in their ways.
In a viral video reposted by the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department of PDRM, we see a group of motorcyclists riding their motorbikes dangerously.
The 28-second clip started with one of the motorcyclists doing the “Superman” stunt while one of their friends in front had fallen off their bike.
This set off a domino effect and, eventually, caused a pile-up of motorcycles on the road.
According to the police, this video was taken by one of the motorcyclists near the Temerloh R&R on the Lebuhraya Pantai Timur (LPT 1).
BERNAMA reports that the motorcyclists were identified and charged at the sessions court on December 29.
It is said that Ammar Muizzuddin Abdul Aziz, 19, Wan Muhammad Syahmi Wan Zulkifli, 20, Mohamad Haiqal Mohd Hanafi, 22, and a 15-year-old boy arrived at the court with injuries on their limbs and pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out to them separately.
They were charged under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which, if found guilty, could mean imprisonment of up to 5 years and a fine between RM5,000 and RM15,000.
Bail for the tertiary students was lowered to RM3,000, and for the schoolboy, RM1,500 as they still depend on their parents.
We hope that other young motorcyclists will not repeat their actions.
