2 Sarawakian primary school students made Malaysia proud recently after winning gold at the World Mathematics Championship (WMC) 2024 held at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Johor Bahru on Saturday (27 April).
It was an overall successful championship for Malaysia too, which was represented by 10 contestants from Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur in multiple WMC 2024 categories.
Two 9-year-old students from Sarawak win gold at WMC 2024!
Most notably, Aadra Fatihah Mohd Dzulkaraen and Lincoln Tie Ung Xing, both 9 years of age from Sarawak, won gold for Grade 2.
As reported by TV Sarawak, Aadra was announced as the Grade 2 winner after finishing a 1-hour competition in the highest points cluster, which was also participated by 16 other contestants from Singapore and Indonesia.
Aadra is a student from Sekolah Kebangsaan Madrasah Datuk Haji Abdul Kadir Hassan.
Meanwhile, the other Malaysian gold medallist, Lincoln Tie Ung Xing, is a student at Sekolah Rendah Swasta St Joseph Kuching. He also won gold for Grade 2 in WMC 2024.
The Malaysian squad made our country proud
Besides that, the Malaysian squad at the championship also won 4 silver medals and 4 bronze medals.
WMC 2024 is the latest edition of the championship organised by Sakamoto Educational System Pte Ltd which is held each year in several countries.
These include Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, Australia, Indonesia and Malaysia. This time around, our country was the host for the championship as it was held in Johor.
