Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has officially joined Parti Perkasa Bumiputera Malaysia (Putra) after quitting Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang), a political party that he formed after leaving Bersatu back in August 2020. Mahathir, who was Pejuang chairman joined Putra alongside 13 other former Pejuang members.
The matter was confirmed by former Pejuang CEC member, Armin Baniaz Pahamin yesterday (24 February 2023). In a Facebook post, Armin said that they will continue their political struggles under Putra, among which are to unite the Malay people, parties and associations.
He asserted,
“All G13 members have registered their membership and continue their political struggle under Parti Perkasa Bumiputera Malaysia (Putra). Our mission and goals need to be clear to be successful. The main struggle is to unite the Malay people, parties and associations.”
According to The Straits Times, Mahathir had previously quit Pejuang on 11 February 2023 after the party quit ties with Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA), a coalition of Malay-Muslim parties and non-governmental associations (NGO). Putra is a part of the GTA coalition.
