Considering the fact that our country is ridiculously multiracial, there is an unspoken rule where different races should mind their own business when it comes to the dos and don’ts of other religions as long as it isn’t directly affecting them.
With that in mind, politicians have, for years, broken this unspoken rule in an attempt to gain favour from the general public. In some instances, they’ll get shot down using logic.
Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Tiong King Sing recently rebuked Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin during a Parliament session, for bringing up his drinking habits instead of focusing on important issues such as finding ways to help boost our country’s economy.
“Don’t bring up nonsense issues or for example, like the MP from Masjid Tanah who said I was drunk, I drink. I am a non-Muslim. What’s wrong with me drinking? I went to Pelangi, they invited me for a Lantern Festival event. I had drinks, I was playing around with the youngsters, it was a little crazy. What’s wrong with that?”
“That’s Chinese culture. There are no issues with that. Don’t come up with nonsense stories,” he shared.
This is in regards to the Minister, who was seen to be intoxicated and dancing with the other guests at a Lantern Festival event organised by volunteer firefighters in Telemong, Pahang.
