With Kelantan and Terengganu bearing the brunt of the floods, victims in other states are also significantly impacted.
UMNO Youth Chief, Dr Akmal Saleh is not sitting still as many in Malacca are currently affected by the flood. In his Facebook post, Dr Akmal personally visited the affected area in Merlimau, Malacca to observe the flood situation.
He stood on the bridge overlooking the river and alerted everyone that the water level was rising as the weather continued to pour. Dr Akmal ignored the weather and continued to patrol the area with a few RELA volunteers.
Based on the statistics shared by the Malaysian Department of Social Welfare, as of 4 PM today (November 29), Malacca currently has 83 flood victims, with 3 districts affected by the disaster.
“Flood is NO JOKE”
While focusing on the victims in his area, Dr Akmal is making sure that nobody gets left behind. In another Facebook post, Akmal said he has instructed the UMNO Youth in the relevant districts to attend to the flood victims in Kelantan and Terengganu.
“The help from UMNO Youth will be there in Kelantan and Terengganu soon.”
In the meantime, Akmal emphasized that the disaster is no small matter, noting that the rising floodwaters pose not only safety concerns but also the risk of potential illnesses.
“When flood happens, your vision is limited. Many poisonous animals will come along.”
“The flood water can also bring a lot of illnesses. Food poisoning is possible especially if the flood water is contaminated with rat’s urine, not to mention the flood water could come from the sewers.”
Akmal also highlighted the emotional consequences that the victims have to go through, especially when they suffer losses not just in the form of property but also lives.
At the time of writing, the number of flood victims has risen to a total of 88,651. Multiple areas in Klang are also affected by the flood after an entire night of downpour.
