The Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT) of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) shared a recent emergency situation that took place on the PLUS Expressway in Sungai Petani, Kedah involving a Thai national going into labour inside her vehicle.
Taking to the department’s official Facebook page, JSPT shared a video and several photos of the incident that took place yesterday (12 February).
In the incident, a family of Thai nationals were driving on the highway in their Thai-registered pickup truck when the woman suddenly started to go into labour.
The woman’s husband then approached the JSPT mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) unit which was at the location to seek their assistance for an escort to the nearest hospital.
However, the Thai woman was too far into labour for her to be safely brought to the hospital and she ended up giving birth inside the pickup truck in the emergency lane of the PLUS expressway.
In the post, JSPT revealed that thanks to the quick actions of Inspector Mat Fauzi, Corporal Sharil and Corporal Hariz Zulfadli of the EMPV Northern Zone (1) of the JSPT Bukit Aman in assisting the Thai family, the foreign woman was able to safely give birth to a healthy baby girl inside the pickup truck.
The 3 JSPT officers helped set up traffic cones and manned the traffic to give proper space and safety for the woman to go into labour, as well as contact emergency health services from the nearby Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani.
The emergency health team then arrived at the scene and helped to cater to the mother and the newborn baby. In one of the photos, the newborn baby can seen wrapped in a towel while carefully being held by her grandmother.
The woman and the newborn baby girl were then brought to the hospital for further checkups.
