The Thailand police are planning to take legal action against a woman from China over a video she posted on Douyin, the China-version of TikTok, which showed Bangkok negatively.
As reported by the Thai-based publication The Nation, the woman, identified as Ziyu Wang, a 28-year-old Chinese social media influencer, said in a video that the popular Soi Nana area on Sukhumvit Road is full of “bad people” and is not safe.
Pol Maj-General Phanthana Nutchanart, the deputy commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, said that the police knew the woman’s whereabouts and would summon her.
However, he admitted that the Chinese tourist has the right to criticise Thailand, and they are still considering the legal aspects of taking action against her.
In the video, the woman took a ‘risk’ in visiting Soi Nana to warn women about what would happen if they visited the street alone.
She visited Soi Nana at 11:30 pm and waited several minutes for strangers to greet her. A foreign tourist greeted her, and she walked away and said on camera that the foreigner could’ve helplessly pulled her away.
She said in the video, “A moment ago, that man said to me, ‘How are you today?’ but I could say had he pulled me away, I would not have been able to escape.”
“You, women, if you are here and if you are approached, I can guarantee you won’t be able to escape,”
She added, “99% of people walking on this street are definitely not good people”.
