PAS Youth in Terengganu is set to lodge a police report today (August 29) for a viral image that insults the Muslim.

In an official statement shared via its Facebook page yesterday, the political party shared an AI-generated image of a Muslim diver covered entirely in a black Burqa (a garment for Muslim women) jumping into the pool, with a caption that said, “Welcome to Afganu!” (A wordplay on Afghanistan + Terengganu).

The image is a mockery against the Terengganu state government for its ban on female Muslim divers. Despite being directed only at the state government, the state’s PAS is not going to sit still.

“As Muslims, we’re not going to stay silent about the mockery and insult against Islam.”

The party also said that the situation is getting out of hand day by day, especially when social media users believe that they can hide behind anonymous profiles.

“They think they have the big cables to hide behind their fake accounts.”

Terengganu’s PAS Youth also highlighted that they will be making a police report about the matter today at 2:30 PM, and they are expecting the authorities to take action.

“We hope that the police will conduct a thorough investigation with relevant agencies such as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). The real mastermind who is behind this insult has to be found.”

Earlier, Terengganu exco voiced out against 2 female Muslim divers who represented the state at Sukma 2024 in Sarawak for inappropriate diving attire. The relevant swimming body has also apologised for the matter, saying there was a misunderstanding about the dress code.

The minister of Sports & Youth, Hannah Yeoh has also responded to the matter, and both divers have been taken under the federal government’s wing. You can read more about it below.
