[TEST] McD’s FIRST CNY Open House Had it All, with Lion Dances, Kuan Family & Free Prosperity Burgers!

If you thought your grandma’s Chinese New Year reunion was the season’s highlight, hold your chopsticks—because McDonald’s Malaysia just threw the loudest open house in town! Yup, you read that right.

Mekdi’s CNY Open House from 7-9 Feb had Malaysians huat-ing like never before, with cultural performances, Curly Fries Lou Sang, and more!

Mekdi themselves hooked us up with an invite to their epic CNY Open House at McD Bandar Sri Damansara Drive-Thru on 7 Feb, which featured insane lion dance stunts, a DJ party and a few other prosperous activities. Here’s the full scoop on all the festive madness! 🥳

1. Curly Fries Lou Sang and lion dance stunts that had us screaming “Walao eh!” 

McD’s Curly Fries are already awesome by themselves, but what if we told you they turned it into a Lou Sang platter? Instead of the usual yee sang ingredients, we got a prosperity remix with crispy Curly Fries and golden Chicken McNuggets, which are part of McD’s Lou Lou Box, tossed high into the air as we shouted “Huat ahh”.

As if that wasn’t enough to wow us, the lion dance that followed had us whipping out our phones to capture gravity-defying stunts, deafening drum beats, and lions flipping effortlessly like Olympic gymnasts. 🦁

2. Cultural performances that left us in awe! 🎻

The night was packed with astounding cultural performances that left us astonished. The graceful notes of a Gu Zheng (Chinese zither) filled the air, as if transporting us straight into ancient China; just as we were getting lost in the mesmerising plucks of its strings, a ukulele joined in, bringing an unexpected twist to the mix like the Prosperity Burger with curly fries—unexpected but iconic. 😉

Then came the Chinese yoyo (Diabolo) performance, and let’s just say our jaws instantly dropped! With lightning-fast wrist flicks, the young performer sent yoyos soaring, catching them mid-air with pinpoint precision. We were hooked as multiple yoyos spun in perfect sync—an absolute feast for the senses!

3. Game stations, calligraphy, and FREE Prosperity Burgers?!

The McD Open House at Bandar Sri Damansara Drive-Thru was an all-out experience, with game stations that had us flexing our skills and luck! 💪 For instance, we had the Fishing for Mandarins challenge—a mini water fishing frenzy where we had to try grabbing as many mandarin oranges as possible to win.

And because we enjoy a blend of culture and fun, we couldn’t resist stopping by the Calligraphy Station. We witnessed the talented calligrapher skillfully painting in awe with her fude to create personalised, unique calligraphies for the audience.

And to add on, McD didn’t forget to keep our stomachs happy! Free Prosperity Burger Meals were given away for everyone to chow down while scoring those game station wins. 💪

4. CNY hits and a DJ party that shook the (open) house! 

Now, what’s a CNY party without some top-tier entertainment? Just when you thought the night couldn’t get any wilder, Mekdi pulled out some serious talents onto the stage! Here’s who they surprised us with:

• The Kuan Family

When The Kuan Family hit the stage, it was like we were at the most epic karaoke session ever—except with way better vocals! From sweet harmonies to explosive solo moments, they mixed traditional Chinese melodies with a punch of modern flair.

• Danny Ah Boy

Then Danny Ah Boy stepped up, and it was like he took the CNY party to another level! Mixing up classic tunes with his signature style, his performance had everyone—from toddlers to grandparents—vibing like never before.

• Wabikong Sai

The hype was real thanks to none other than Wabikong Sai, who kept the energy soaring as he got the audience to participate in the games! From balancing a ping-pong ball on a plastic spoon while flipping bottles to answering Q&A’s to score ang paos, he had the crowd laughing, cheering, and battling it out for red packets. 🧧

Then came the real showstopper—Perry Kuan’s DJ set to close the night! Every track he spun had the crowd vibing like they were in a full-blown festival and every thumping bass drop made it clear that this was the perfect way to wrap up the Mekdi CNY Open House.

And to finish off this already fun night, an epic fireworks display lit up the sky—because, let’s face it, CNY parties are incomplete if they don’t end with a bang! 🎆
