A recent post has gone viral after a woman shared an incident at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 1 (KLIA), where she and her two daughters noticed two foreigners acting suspiciously while waiting for the lift.

Taking to Threads, Annie (@annie_muhammad) recounted the experience, saying the two Bangladeshi men appeared to be scanning them and seemed to be pretending to wait for the lift, despite not pressing any buttons.

Foreign men allegedly behaved suspiciously after spotting a woman and her kids

As the story goes, when the lift arrived, one of the men stepped in while the other lingered by the door. But one of Annie’s daughters quickly pretended she needed something from a nearby snack bar, and they used the moment to quietly walk away.

“When the three of us (me and two girls) got to the elevator, we saw two Bangladeshi men standing near the buttons, like they were waiting for the lift, but we noticed they didn’t press anything. We also felt like they were scanning us.”

“I pressed the button to go up, and the men pretended to enter. When I saw them about to step into the lift, I held my girls back, and my daughter was smart, she said, ‘Oh, I need to get something from the snack bar.’ So we walked away, and the moment they saw us leave, the men decided not to get into the lift,” she wrote.

“That was already a major red flag”

Annie described the two men as “unruly and messy,” noting that they didn’t look like travellers as they weren’t carrying any luggage.

“We hung around at the snack bar for a while, and they noticed us taking our time and talking among ourselves. I think they sensed our suspicion, so they quickly left using the escalator to Level 1.”

In the comments section, Malaysia Airports has since responded, confirming that KLIA police and security have received a report regarding the incident.

“Passengers who feel unsafe or notice any suspicious behaviour are advised to use the emergency buttons located on each level of the car park, or approach the nearest airport staff, security personnel, information counter, or PDRM office for immediate assistance,” they wrote.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Annie also shared her advice, saying:

“Being in a group doesn’t make you invisible to potential crime. In my case, there were three of us. Always be aware of your surroundings and be mindful of behaviour that feels strange. Teach your kids early to stay alert by showing them how to react. When in doubt, remove yourself from the situation as quickly as possible.”
