Please always double-check if you’re purchasing any Covid-19 self-test kits!
Investigations found that a pharmacy in Terengganu that sold Covid-19 self-test kits obtained its supplies from an unauthorised company in Pahang. The company was not among the six approved to distribute and sell the test kits to the public.
According to the statement from Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP), investigations were done after receiving complaints from users. The self-test kits that cost RM60 per unit were also not listed as a controlled item.
“KPDNHEP will submit the findings of this investigation to the responsible party, namely the Medical Device Authority (MDA) for further action as it is not under the jurisdiction of KPDNHEP,” said the ministry.
The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry also urged consumers to be vigilant when purchasing self-test kits from the market. The public can view all approved companies here, or the list of recommended Covid-19 IVD Test kits here at the MDA website.
