The ongoing walk-in vaccination initiative in the Klang Valley will be expanded to public vaccination centres (PPVs) nationwide for special groups in the near future as revealed by a statement released by the National Covid-19 Immunization Special Task Force (CITF). CITF informed that walk-in vaccinations without an appointment is reserved for certain groups, namely the elderly, the disabled (OKU), individuals with comorbidities aged 18 years and above, individuals who missed the second dose injection, as well as teachers, members of the implementation team and support service contract workers with the educational institutions of the Ministry of Education (MOE).

Furthermore, the statement also mentioned that individuals who missed their second dose can go to any PPV close to their homes and if the PPV does not offer a vaccine of the same type as their first dose, they will be referred to another PPV. The statement stated,

“Details of walk-in vaccination implementation will be informed by the State CITF together with the respective State Health Departments. This includes vaccination scheduling and daily walk-in vaccination quota at PPVs for each state.”

The CITF said the number of daily walk-ins depended on the capacity of vaccine supplies and for individuals who did not have the opportunity to get vaccinated that day due to shortage of vaccine supplies at the PPV, their names would be listed as a priority to get vaccinated the next day. It is explained that the ‘walk-in’ initiative for senior citizens has started in Perak, Kedah, Penang, Sabah, Melaka and Sarawak, including Kelantan, which is open for pre-booking.

For Klang Valley residents who do not belong to any of the above categories, but want to come straight for the first dose without an appointment can go to the PPV that has been listed previously in relation to their circumstances. According to the CITF, walk-ins to the previously listed PPVs are also allowed according to the operating hours of the respective PPVs and will no longer start at 2pm.

For pregnant women, CITF states that this group is not encouraged to meet directly, instead will be given an appointment through MySejahtera according to the expected date of delivery (EDD) to the appropriate PPV.

CITF also called on the public to adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and cooperate with staff at PPVs when present to obtain walk-in vaccinations to prevent the spread of Covid-19 infections and ensure the smooth vaccination process and safety at PPVs.
