A group of teenagers at a cinema in a Johor Bahru shopping mall were allegedly being noisy during the show and disturbing other patrons in the hall. A Malaysian woman then asked them to lower their voices, but this did not sit well with the youths.
In a viral Facebook post in the group JB 新山吹水站2.0, the woman said she politely told them to lower their voices, only for the group to attack her verbally by making insensitive remarks. The woman, who was with her brother, said that other patrons also told the group to be quiet, which they ignored.

One of the boys allegedly threatened the woman with sexual violence
One of the youths not only made sexual remarks to the woman but also allegedly told her brother,
“My friend says he wants to rape your sister.”
The woman also said that the youths also insulted the characters in the movie for being “black”. The incident happened on Saturday, May 3, when they were watching a Japanese animated musical, Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing. She was shocked and baffled to see such atrocities and hear those remarks from the youths.
“I was merely reminding them politely but in the end, I got insulted. It was hard to believe that those words came from them.”
“The vulgarity reflects failed parenting. Their behaviour out here reflects how they are at home. It’s not hard to guess who taught them such vulgarities.”

The woman lodged an official complaint
In the comments section of the viral post, the woman clarified why she and her brother did not escalate the matter by taking immediate action.
According to her, they couldn’t report to the cinema ushers because no one was making their rounds to check the cinema halls. However, she lodged an official complaint with the management of the cinema after the incident.
The woman also said she did not record the incident due to Section 43A of the Copyright Act 1987 regarding recording in the cinema that may lead to copyright infringement, which she did not want to violate.
“We did not confront them further because if we didn’t handle the conflict well, we would be charged with harassing the underage kids.”
She also reminded the youths’ parents not to defend their kids if they ever come across the post online, and insisted that “the kids started this” and “they are at fault.”
