A recent study by the online language learning marketplace Preply on the busiest cities in the world revealed some interesting findings about the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur.

Analysing data on the world’s largest populations, longest average working hours, average hours of sleep and more, Preply found that Kuala Lumpur is the 4th busiest capital city in Southeast Asia and 15th globally with a total score of 48.7 out of 100.

In the study, Kuala Lumpur is only behind Indonesia’s Jakarta (66.5 total score), the Philippines’ Manila (58.8 total score) and Thailand’s Bangkok (56.4 total score) as the busiest city in the Southeast Asian region.

Globally, Mexico City, Mexico was found to be the busiest city in the world with a total score of 69.6.

Preply elaborated that the city’s massive population of 12,294,193 people and its average working hours of 2,511 hours per year were among the reasons it was named the busiest city in the world.

Following closely behind is India’s New Delhi which scored 68.9 in the study. Preply asserted that New Delhi is a particularly busy place to do business, with 19,000 entrepreneurs found in the city via LinkedIn.

The Indian capital city also has an average traffic time of 57.37 minutes, making it arguably the worst city in the world to be stuck in traffic.

As for Kuala Lumpur, we have one of the lowest population scores in the study of 2.1 due to the Malaysian capital city’s relatively small population compared to others in the list.

In terms of working hours, Kuala Lumpur has the 10th most working hours in the world with 2,105 hours per year.

Interestingly, the study also found that workers in Kuala Lumpur have the 6th lowest amount of annual leave days in the world with just 8 days.
