Last Thursday (16th March), Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results were released nationwide. According to Education director-general Tan Sri Dr Khair Mohamad Yusof, last year’s Form 5 students performed much better compared to 2015’s students.
One of the more outstanding students from 2016 included young Natasha Qisty Mohd Ridzuan, who scored 9A+.
Understandably, she was very happy with her results and beamed with pride as she was interviewed by Bernama News Channel.
However, her results weren’t the main focus of some netizens’ attention. Social media users began criticising her for her looks, saying that she wore too much make-up, many of them completely ignoring her well-earned success.
Many of these users commented that she would rely on her looks instead of her intellect in the future, while others criticised her for speaking in both Malay and English.
Luckily, many more netizens came out in support of Natasha, praising her success and putting the haters in their rightful place.
Syed Saddiq, Youth chief of BERSATU party, also took to Twitter to voice out his anger and disappointment at the people who criticised Natasha’s looks instead of focusing on her success, saying,
“Tell me what kind of makeup do I need to wear to get 9A+? Why is it whenever a Malay woman succeeds at something, we only focus on her looks and not on her brain and the content of her character?”
We congratulate Natasha for her success and wish her all the best in her future endeavours. This is a lesson that we shouldn’t care what others think and keep working hard!
