A Singaporean woman had the shock of her life after she went to visit a hotel in Shah Alam recently to find it in a derelict condition and abandoned.
This is despite the same hotel being actively listed on the popular global online travel platform Agoda, a subsidiary of Booking Holdings.
Taking to TikTok, the woman, @mischarielle shared several screenshots from the Agoda app, including one in which the app tells her that the abandoned hotel, Carlton Hotel Shah Alam is a “Great choice”.
Furthermore, the app also made the abandoned hotel the first option when searching for accommodations in Shah Alam for 30 and 31 August. However, the app also said that rooms in the hotel as being sold out on the date.
In another screenshot, Agoda also showed the hotel as having largely good reviews, with a rating of 6.7 out of 10.
In reality, when @mischarielle visited the hotel herself, she found the hotel to be empty and had been abandoned for a long time.
Going to the site at night time, the footage of her visiting the site of the hotel also made it rather creepy.
A quick search showed that the hotel, located in Shah Alam’s Section 13 is still actively listed on Agoda as of the time of writing. This is despite the hotel being closed since 2020 following the pandemic.
In the video’s comments, many Malaysians who have visited the hotel in the past were shocked to actually find the hotel being abandoned for years.
One commenter said that the hotel used to be his favourite place to go karaoke, while another commenter reminisce how he once went for an interview there.
