One of the best things about a wedding is the culture and traditions that you’ll have to follow when getting married. It’s one of the best ways to get in touch with your roots and honour your ancestors.
That being said, in Chinese culture, the bride and groom would have to offer their parents a cup of tea to thank them for raising them as well as receiving their blessings in this marriage.
Just recently, a Singaporean couple assisted by Ambulance Wish Singapore was able to fulfill their terminally ill father’s wishes. According to ZaoBao, Hui Sing’s (the bride) father was diagnosed with cancer 3 years ago.
Doctors mentioned that he could undergo surgery but because he has heart issues, going under general anesthesia is dangerous for him. Doctors then recommended him to go through radio and chemotherapy to help with his illness and since then, he has been in and out of the hospital.
“His condition was stable but just over a month ago, the doctors have told us that his condition has worsened and only has 3 months to live. Mum and I were distraught when we found out, we didn’t know what to do”, she added.
Hui Sing’s mum then mentioned to her that one of her dad’s wishes is to see her get married, but if they’re not ready for the next step, they don’t have to go through it now. After discussing with her boyfriend’s parents, they’ve agreed that if they’re ready, they should just get married while the dad is still around.
“We then decided to have the ceremony on 11 November 2022 and at that point, we had about 1 month to prepare. Unfortunately, my dad’s condition continued to worsen, and we had no choice but to bring forward the tea ceremony”, she said.
With the help of Ambulance Wish Singapore, they were able to arrange:
- A small room in the hospital
- A make-up artist
- Bouquet of flowers
- Tea ceremony set
- Simple decorations
The tea ceremony went well, and Hui Sing’s dad was determined to finish of the tea despite not being able to eat or drink. Hours after the tea ceremony had ended, Hui Sing’s father passed away peacefully after his wish was fulfilled.
It’s truly touching to see the effort put in to make sure Hui Sing’s dad’s wish was fulfilled. Congratulations to the newly-weds and may her father rest in peace.
