It looks like Singapore’s iconic Marina Bay Sands (MBS) will be getting a fourth tower in the near future!

According to Business Insider, Las Vegas Sands Corporation just announced on Wednesday (3rd April) that a fourth tower would be built right next to the existing three MBS towers. Its CEO, Sheldon Adelson, stated that MBS’ success exceeded the company’s expectations and hoped that the new tower would attract more tourists from foreign nations.

In a Facebook post by Singapore’s Minister for Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing, he announced that the construction of the fourth tower would be part of a major project worth SGD$9 billion (approx. RM27.1 billion) involving both MBS and Resorts World Sentosa (RWS). An excerpt from his post reads,

“MBS will build a new iconic hotel tower with more than 1,000 rooms and a 15,000 seater indoor arena for large scale performances.”

“RWS will add two new destination hotels and expand Universal Studios Singapore by introducing two new themed zones – Super Nintendo World and Minion Park.”

Meanwhile, the Trade and Industry Minister also stated that in an effort to “keep a close watch on the social impact of problem gambling”, the government decided to increase its daily and annual casino entry fees by 50% starting Thursday (4th April 2019).

The levy for Singapore residents will increase from SGD$100 to SGD$150 (from approx. RM300 to RM450), while the annual levy would increase from SGD$2,000 to SGD$3,000 (from approx. RM6,000 to RM9,000).

The fourth MBS tower, which will reportedly be designed by architect Moshe Safdie, who designed the original MBS towers and will cost about SGD$4.5 billion (approx. RM13.6 billion) to build. This tower will also not be connected to the existing structures and will have its own sky roof that will have a swimming pool and restaurant.

Meanwhile, Las Vegas Sands did not give a timeline in its statement announcing the construction of MBS’ fourth tower, but stated that it already signed an agreement with Singapore’s government to immediately start work on it.

This extension will also have an arena that can seat up to 15,000 people with the latest stage production technology in hopes of attracting more international artists to perform there.
