Although women of all ages often undergo sexual harassment on a daily basis, it is worth noting that some men also face sexual harassment by strangers.
Malaysian weightlifter and silver medalist at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in the men’s 73kg category recently faced a barrage of sexual comments from women after he shared a picture of him laying in bed with his silver medal.
Although the comments were not directly shared on the Instagram post he posted, the picture made its way onto Facebook where the majority of unwanted comments came from.
One of the comments says, “Wow, can I lay on top of your arm.”
Another commented the lyrics to a viral TikTok song.
What’s worth noting is that both of the women above have profile pictures which featured their spouse and children which indicates that they are married.
Isn’t this sexual harassment?
The women’s comments were shared on Twitter where netizens debated on whether or not it could be considered as sexual harassment.
Popular Twitter page ‘Jabatan Netizen Malaysia’ took to the platform to share the comments and the picture of Erry. In their post they wrote, “If men commented this (it is) sexual harassment. What about if it’s women?”
The post has garnered a lot of attention as plenty of netizens expressed their thoughts on the issue. A lot of them say that it is still sexual harassment even if it’s from women.
“This is sexual harassment. Unwanted sexual comments are still sexual harassment regardless of the gender,” commented a user.
Meanwhile, a number of netizens expressed their shock and disgust over the comments made by the Facebook users, especially as they were married and even had children.
“Can’t these FB users who put pictures with their husbands and families as their profile pictures control their pervy thoughts? I thought that it’s just men who are perverted, turns out some wives are the same,” said a user.
Another netizen commented, “These are all married women? Disgusting… even if you’re single it’s disgusting what more for those who are married.”
