Since the dawn of time, it’s pretty common to see men chilling by the couch while their female counterparts slowly go thru racks and racks of shoes, or just stand outside a store while their girlfriend/wife rummage through the isles of clothes.
Well, a concept that was introduced at a major shopping mall in Shanghai that may just be the answer to men’s woes.
According to SCMP, Global Harbour has recently launched a unique solution to this problem by introducing the “husband rest hatches” for bored husbands and boyfriends to rest their weary feet while keeping entertained by the computer games in the booths. We can hear men everywhere rejoicing!
There are currently four of these hatches placed around the mall and is on a one-month free trial period at the moment. The hatches are comfortably outfitted with plush chairs and a big TV screen together with a games console so men can while their time away happily while waiting for their partners to shop until they drop.
The booth is big enough to fit one person and is fully encased in glass so that the noise would not disturb other shoppers getting their dose of retail therapy. AsiaOne says that the mall plans to set up more booths with improved amenities in the future and users will be charged using a mobile application when they want to use them.
While the booths have been a hit with the males, as they said it was “best of both worlds, as they could have fun while their partners shopped” but some of their female counterparts beg to differ.
One said, “It’s impossible to ask a man to stop playing games. Now I’ll have to wait for him to finish his game even after I’m done with shopping.” Another lady complained, “A man is supposed to accompany his girlfriend to shop. I’ll be the bored one if he plays games and has fun by himself.”
We think it’s a great idea and couples will need to meet in the middle for this! Not too much shopping, not too much gaming either!
