The rainy season has put all Malaysians on high alert over the potential scare of flash floods, and honestly, it is for valid reasons.
A recent TikTok video has been making waves online after one Malaysian user, @mashirus, shared a clip of her journey while travelling to university. In her car, @mashirus recorded a moment at a bridge she needed to cross in order to get to her university, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), which is located in Sintok, Kedah.
Shockingly, the water levels of the river that is located under that bridge were extremely high, almost spilling onto the road and rushing with great speed. @mashirus did indeed confirm that the incident took place at Sungai Sintok.
Many Malaysians expressed their concern over seeing the rising water levels, with one person asking if that road was the only one that could be used to get to UUM.
“There are many, but this road is the one that is the closest to reaching UUM,” replied @mashirus to the comment.
Another user explained that UUM is in a unique area, as there are two rivers surrounding it, Sungai Sintok and Sungai Badak. He stated that eventually, they meet around the area where UUM is located.
Nevertheless, while multiple users advised students to be on guard, some also stated that they shouldn’t be too worried, as this had been a recurring incident from years prior. Alumni from UUM also came forward to discuss their experiences.
“There was a really bad flood at UUM back in 2010. Students were stuck to the point where they couldn’t leave, and there were even crocodiles in the ditch. We had to find alternative roads in order to get home,” wrote one user.
In a brief conversation with WORLD OF BUZZ, the user clarified that the water levels did recede eventually and that the roads had been cleared by the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia.
