Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) sign language interpreter Mohammad Fadhil Tan Razman Tan passed away today (10 April).
The deceased, widely known as Abby Tan, had been receiving treatment following a road accident earlier on 6 March. In a Facebook post, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil expressed his sympathy and prayed for strength and patience for the bereaved family as they cope with the loss. He also conveyed condolences to Abby Tan’s colleagues at RTM, particularly those in the Current Affairs News Division, and encouraged the public to pray for the late interpreter’s soul.

Abby Tan was involved in a serious hit-and-run incident while riding a motorcycle on his way back to his mother’s hometown in Ipoh. The accident occurred between 9 PM and 10 PM on 6 March at Simpang Pulai, where he was reportedly struck by a lorry that fled the scene.
Following the crash, he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun in Ipoh, where he remained in critical condition for several weeks, according to reports by Sinar Harian and China Press.
Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries today.

Abby Tan was known for his work as a sign language interpreter on RTM broadcasts, helping to make news content more accessible to the deaf and hard-of-hearing community in Malaysia. His passing has drawn condolences from colleagues, officials, and members of the public who appreciated his contributions to inclusive broadcasting.
Fahmi said the government stands in solidarity with RTM staff during this difficult time and acknowledged Abby Tan’s dedication and service to public communication.
The ministry also urged Malaysians to remember his contributions with respect and gratitude.
