A recent skit parodying the over-the-top and gambling-filled nature of American sports shows by the late-night talk and satirical news television program The Daily Show unexpectedly featured Malaysia, as our country’s performance at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 was used to mock Malaysian comedian Ronny Chieng, a host of the show.
At the tail-end of the hilarious skit featuring Chieng and Michael Kosta, the latter brought up the ‘final medal count’ of Paris 2024.
However, instead of showing the whole table, Kosta only showed 3 countries, 1st place USA with 126 medals, 2nd-place China with 91 medals and Singapore, the odd 1 out of the 3 with just 1 medal.
Kosta then made fun of Chieng for Singapore’s solitary medal at the Olympics, given that he grew up in the country.
Chieng then clapped back by showing a medal count table factoring in population size that puts Grenada in 1st place, while the USA was in 59th.
Malaysia named among favourites to embarrass themselves at the 2028 Olympics
After hilariously mistaking Grenada for Canada, Kosta then segued to the “Freeballin’ College Fund Quadrupler Bet of the Evening” which asked,
“Which country that Ronny grew up in will embarrass themselves at the 2028 Olympics?
The odds for the bet then featured 3 countries, including Malaysia:
- Singapore -150
- Malaysia -250
- Australia -325
If you’re not familiar, odds with a negative (-) symbol indicate the betting favourite.
Chieng then sulked at the segment before segueing to the end of the skit.
