In a press release, TAT revealed that Thailand welcomed a whopping 35,047,501 foreign tourists from 1 January to 27 December 2024, surpassing its target of 35 million international tourists this year with 4 days left to spare.

Moreover, TAT also announced that the country generated a staggering THB1.8 TRILLION or approximately RM234.6 BILLION in tourism revenue during the same period.

For context, Thailand recorded 28.09 million foreign tourists in 2023, with Malaysians topping the charts as the highest number of foreign visitors with over 4.6 million.

TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool credited this remarkable achievement to strategic Thai Government initiatives that enhanced the country’s appeal as a world-class destination.

She attributed the achievement to key policies such as the visa exemption for citizens of 93 countries, allowing stays of up to 60 days and the elimination of T.M. 6 immigration forms at 16 key border crossings, streamlining entry processes.

Thapanee also lauded the country’s aviation sector for playing a vital role in the achievement, with international airlines resuming routes and introducing new ones from primary and secondary cities worldwide.

This expansion increased total airline seat capacity to 47 million in 2024—a 26% rise compared to 2023, with over 311 additional flights scheduled during the December high season, adding over 70,000 seats.

Thailand is targeting up to 39 million foreign tourists next year

TAT further stressed that Thailand is not resting on its laurels, as the country has set even greater targets for its tourism industry in 2025, especially with its ‘Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025’.

Accordingly, next year, Thailand is planning to host world-class events and festivals, showcase unique Thai cultural experiences, enhance travel convenience and offer exclusive visitor benefits, as well as collaborate with global influencers to amplify the country’s appeal.

Furthermore, Thailand is targeting up to 39 million foreign visitors in 2025, with the aim to generate up to THB2.23 trillion or RM291 billion.
