To many people here, seafood is considered a luxury and it’s not something we have every day, mostly due to the price that can be expensive especially if you patronise the authentic seafood places.
A Hong Kong YouTuber who has been staying in Malaysia for years, however, said that the seafood in Malaysia is not only delicious but also cheap!
Mango recently shared a video of her enjoying seafood with her family at a restaurant in Sekinchan, where they had ordered a plate of shrimp, a plate of crabs with buns, and 2 plates of fish (steamed and fried). The seafood was handpicked by the family, and just like any Asians will do, the dishes are paired with white rice and they had nothing but fond words about their meal.
They loved it, especially the shrimp which came in gravy with a hint of wine flavour.
To enhance the taste, they also dip the seafood in soy sauce mixed with chili and garlic, which, according to them, is not available in Hong Kong.
“Even if we have it in Hong Kong, we’ll have to pay for that.”
Yep, most eateries in Malaysia allow their guests to refill chili and garlic without any additional charges, and that’s truly 1 of the things that we’re happy about when it comes to the food experience in Malaysia.
Their dining table got messier as time passed but hey, if your table is clean when you’re having myriads of seafood, then you’re not doing it right!
So, what’s the damage?
As expected, the crab was the most expensive dish during the meal – RM132 (approximately HKD 232). After a quick guessing game, Mango then revealed the total bill amounted to RM204, which is approximately HKD359 in their currency.
The whole family agreed that it was cheap for a seafood meal, and described the price as equivalent to “yum cha” in Hong Kong. You can watch their dining experience in the YouTube video below.
Fellow Malaysians, especially seafood lovers, what do you think of the price?
