When running a business, we expect profit. It takes good reasoning and courage to give away something for free as it will incur losses. A restaurant owner in Malacca, however, defies all odds by offering FREE food to customers.

Don’t get too excited yet. Not everyone is eligible for the free food, according to a Facebook post by Byran King in the group 马六甲人.

“If you don’t have an income at the moment or if you’re having financial issues, just let us know.”

According to a notice board placed outside the restaurant, guests who cannot afford to pay will be served a plate of Nasi Lemak on the house.

“Feel free to leave after the meal. You don’t have to pay.”

Byran, who was skeptical about the notice which he believed was “too good to be true”, decided to step into the premise and give it a try. He ordered the free food and he got more than what he asked.

“He gave me a glass of water and also 2 chicken skewers. I was starting to think that I would have to pay for the extra food.”

Byran felt bad for leaving just like that after his meal. He was shocked at the attentive service despite the free food and said the boss offered to give him an additional portion of rice if Byran wanted.

“The warmth almost teared me up. I felt bad, so I left a piece of RM20 on the table before I left.”

Not long after Byran left the restaurant, the restaurant owner approached him from the back. As many of you may have guessed, he returned the RM20 to Byran and insisted that he take it back.

“I can’t take this. If the plate of rice could help anyone who is struggling, then it’s priceless,” the owner told Byran.

Byran thanked the man and left the place, feeling a warmth that he had rarely felt nowadays.

“There’s warmth and a safe haven in Malacca. I wish the restaurant owner all the best in his business!”

Just a friendly reminder, you should only expect free food and service if you are REALLY struggling financially. Do give the business a support if you’re around the area, and thank you to the unnamed owner who has restored faith in humanity.
