With the ongoing boycott movements, you may have a lot of brands on your “boycott list,” but according to BDS Malaysia, the popular fried chicken chain is NEVER on its list.

BDS is formed by a group of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and people who share the same goal—to promote freedom and justice for the Palestinians through boycotts, divestments, and sanctions.

In its statement this morning (May 26), BDS said it has never campaigned for Malaysians to boycott KFC.

“McD was never on the list too until the outlets in Israel distribute the free food to Israeli soldiers,” said Prof Nazari Ismail, the chairman of BDS Malaysia.

He added, “The world is angry that the distribution was NOT stopped by McD corporation.”

Fortunately, KFC has never taken part in helping the Israelis in any form. Prof Nazari, however, was surprised to learn that many Malaysians are not buying KFC anymore, and the reason has NOTHING to do with the ongoing genocide.

It’s the price

Prof Nazari included an opinionated piece from a local newspaper columnist in which the current pricing of KFC was discussed.

In the writing titled “Forget rice, why is KFC so expensive now?”, the columnist said the fast food outlet used to be the benchmark for basic middle-class affordability.

“KFC was always at least attainable even if for some it was a monthly treat.”

However, with the current pricing, the columnist prefers to go somewhere else for fried chicken.

Prof Nazari, on the other hand, affirmed that there is no need to put KFC on the boycott list because the organisation has never aided the Israeli soldiers.

Fellow Malaysian consumers, what do you think of this?
